The current level of health service in the province is challenged by increasing population demands and also increasing complexities of health issues. Under the current level of services, the lowest level of health service facility is aid posts manned by a community health worker and only provide outpatient services. The next level is the sub-health Centre and a district health centres which is administered by the health extension officer and registered nurses and community health workers. Owing to the increase in population and complexities in health issues, aid posts no longer provide adequate quality service that is required. Coupled with increasing population, aid posts manned by community health worker does not have the capacity to deal with large quantity and more importantly the quality of services demanded at that level. Furthermore, the referral system is not responsive because of the remoteness of some of the health facilities. The current aid posts were developed when the population was small and health issues were less complex. To address the issue of quality and quantity of services at lower levels, and capacity of health facility at the lowest level to meet these challenges, the Community Health Post concept is developed. The community health post initiative is to improve and strengthen health services to the people at their door step. Aid posts needed to be revamped by increasing number of health workers to address isolation, boredom & low morale, more aid posts closed, referral and system more remote.
